How could there have been an eclipse at the time of the crucifixion?
Passover always occurs during a full moon. The crucifixion occured during Passover. The New Testament says: Matthew 27:45: "Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour." Since the moon was full, there could not have been a solar eclipse. So what caused the "darkness"?
It occured in the daylight hours from 12 until about three p.m., not at night. It was a miracle. It could also have been an insult to the sun god worshipped at the time. Romans had festivals to honour this god and it could have been another way to shadow this god as well as showing Jesus’ heavenly Father’s grief. There was also an earthquake at the same time (Matt 27:45, 51 also see Amos 8:9).

Relying on scientific explanations often voids the story. God does not live by man’s ,so called laws of physics

Apparently Jesus’ crucifixion took place around Passover, the middle of the lunar month and the time of a full moon. Solar eclipses naturally take place only at the time of the new moon
EDIT
It should have been a lunar eclipse
The failure of any of the gospel accounts to refer to a lunar eclipse is, they assume, the result of a scribe wrongly amending a text to refer to a solar eclipse
