Stock the bar party?!…Good or bad?
Our parents are going to pay for our wedding, but will not foot the bill for alcohol. I have a few alcoholics in my family, so my mom and dad don’t want to "support the cause". Anyway, as bad as it sounds…it is true that most people have more fun after one of two drinks. So, we aren’t sure what to do about the open bar situation. We were thinking about having a stock the bar party before the big day and using the gifts to…well…"stock the bar"…otherwise we will spend alot of money trying to buy and provide alcohol ourselves.
Is this a good idea?….has anyone ever done this before? How does it work out?
Also, neither of us want a bachelor/bachelorette party….we just aren’t into that kind of thing. So, my sister in law is my matron of honor and wanted to host a party that BOTH of us could be apart of…is this okay/normal? lol
I have been contemplating a cash bar…however, of the wedding I have went to that have a cash bar, I hear alot of complaints. I don’t wanna have one of "those" weddings.
However, I was thinking buying our own alcohol, hiring a bar tendor and maybe having beer for a dollar and mixed drinks for two dollars…. still cheap for the guest, and we will get some of the money back. Any thoughts on this?
Why not just have a cash bar, possibly with a keg of beer and some bottles of wine that you can pay for - that will keep the costs down, keep the party to a low roar and help lower the chance of somebody hopping into a car and driving off (in an open bar situation, you would be liable for any damage done by someone getting drunk).
As for the joint party - sounds like a good idea. If you are not into the bach party scene, it makes no sense to have one just to be miserable. Just lay down your rules to the sis-in-law (no strippers, shooters, or whatever else turns you off to the bachelor/bachelorette party scene).
